Bits & Bytes
As part of the National Initiative for Computer Science Education Week, students continue to explore the fundamentals of coding using the Ozobots. Our goal is to provide opportunities for young students to engage in a variety of programming activities as an introduction to coding. The world that our children are growing in demand the need for us to focus some of our STEM resources on Computer Science and programming so our children will be successful in their futures.

News - 11/28/2016This month, students have been exploring Encarta Kids and World Book Online. Younger students are learning about the magic of these multi-media resources, while older students have been applying their techno skills and creating slideshows in PowerPoint from their research.
World Book Online can be accessed from home using our school subscription. If you don't have PowerPoint, you can always use Google Slides and it's free! The more technology that we expose our students to at this age, the better they will be able to perform at the next level! |
Research and Report
Houston Webber, 1st grade, found the National Anthem in Encarta Kids, and stood up to show his respect.

News - 10/17/2016This week, students are getting their hands on these tiny, golf-ball sized robots to explore simple coding concepts using the Ozobots. Students begin with using markers to draw a path for the Ozobot to follow. They decide what they want their Ozobot to do and can program a code that will change the response of the Ozobot. As students get the hang of coding, they will advance to more challenging activities that will require them to reason and troubleshoot their programming to code a successful completion of the Ozobot's journey. Students will also be able to code using the website www.ozoblockly.com and then load their program onto their Ozobot for execution. Stay tuned for more exciting news from the bot-world!

Get On with the CODE!
Students in 3rd grade are learning how to code using the website ozoblockly. They are quickly getting the hang of it and preparing to use our new OZOBOTS to test out their newly created coded programs! Using funds from my Go 4 the Dough Fundraiser, I have purchased a classroom set of ozobots that students will be able to use during Computer Class. The tiny golf-ball sized robots will help students learn about simple code language and deductive reasoning. They are pre-programmed to follow black, red, green and blue paths so even Magnolia's youngest students will be able to enjoy coding using markers! ***TECHNO-THRILL ALERT*** As students get their hands on the Ozobots, you may begin to see this smart little robot on Christmas Wish Lists! (Amazon has the Ozobot Starter Pack for $49.95 and it's Prime!) |
