About 410
Hello! I am Lisa Fortenberry (Mrs. 410berry to my kiddos) and I have been the Techno-Teacher at Magnolia Park Elementary in Ocean Springs, Mississippi since 2002. When I first entered the classroom, I was excited about the possibilities of helping students discover how they could use technology that would prepare them for success in the Techno-World! Since no program or curriculum existed for technology instruction at the elementary level in my district, (or Mississippi for that matter), I had to do extensive research to find guidelines and benchmarks outlined in the National Educational Technology Standards to use as my starting point. I had to rely on my own skills and tenacity to develop lessons and write curriculum that would help young students accomplish these benchmarks.
So I set out with no funding, antiquated equipment, and outdated programs but with the full support of my Administration and Campus Colleagues to create a program that has morphed into a tangible asset that has equipped students with the skills needed to produce quality academic work products. Students have embraced the challenging lessons and have shown remarkable growth that have given them the the ability to become young leaders at the elementary level with their technology skills as they advance beyond Magnolia Park. Students have embraced the challenging lessons and have shown remarkable growth. To lessen the financial burden on the district, I have used fundraising in the past to supplement funds to support the activities, programs and equipment in the Computer Lab that directly benefits our student population year after year! The unwavering support of the families of my students and the community have allowed me the means to extend my passion to the youngsters who cross my threshold each year. To see them grow up and use their skills that they have learned from a weekly 50 minute computer class is the most rewarding experience of my career.
My mission has been to provide opportunities for students to participate in activities by grade level to promote and strengthen technology skills and achieve basic technology competencies in an environment that is safe, fun and creatively stimulating. While the guidelines/benchmarks/expectations terminology change from time to time, the goals for my students have not changed. In the time that I have been teaching technology, I have seen remarkable successes with my students and I am pleased that they rise to the challenge in developing the skills that they will benefit from not just in school, but in every day life! We are all working to help Every Student Succeed!
I graduated from OSHS many, many ions ago and enjoy being a teacher in this fabulous school district! Greyhound Pride runs deep in my veins and I am a proud supporter! In my spare time, I enjoy spending time at home with my furbabies and family. I like photography, videography, webpage design, reading, fishing, watercolors and cooking. I am a techno-junkie and it is seldom you don't see a tablet in my hand or nearby!
